My name is Samantha England and I am a Middle School and High School art teacher in the Southwest Region. I am in my 10th year of teaching, and I currently teach at The Summit Country Day School in Cincinnati.
I believe in the power of art to help children express themselves and to provide a much-needed break in their busy days. Through art and embodiment students can have artistic experiences that can transcend the mundane and allow creativity to flow. After writing my thesis on time in the classroom, I have never had a clock in my room. Allowing kids to really get into their work and to lose track of time, has improved studio work and encouraged kids to focus on the moment and less on what’s next. I also believe in the healing power of art. Art has helped me through my most difficult times and I think the social emotional impact of expressing yourself through art is empowering. I always encourage students who are going through difficulties to create art and express their story.
I look forward to the opportunities to connect with other educators throughout Ohio and share experiences, techniques and future meetups! I look forward to serving as the Middle Division Chair, please reach out to me to connect, to share ideas and suggestions. You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
