General Information
A high quality digital photo of the art of 800 pixels or larger must be submitted for best printing. Please name the image file with the student’s first and last name and the district they are representing (jane_smith_41.jpg).
Artwork must be two-dimensional, flat, and vertical with dimensions to fit an 18 inch x 24 inch frame. Printing and framing will be provided by the exhibition site. No 3-D art will be accepted.
Accepted mediums for the two-dimensional flat artwork are as follows:
  • Paintings - oil, acrylics, watercolor
  • Drawings - pencil, colored pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (it is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed)
  • Collages - must be two-dimensional and flat
  • Prints - lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
  • Mixed Media - use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
  • Computer-generated art
  • Photographs

Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of these rules and will not be accepted.
Artwork will hang in the exhibition for the entire calendar year of the exhibition. Images may be used by the Ohio Arts Council or the Ohio Art Education Association for promotion. Reception will be in April. Letters will go to students and parents with detailed information in February or early March.
The artwork will be framed and installed by professionals.

Suitability Guidelines
As outlined in these guidelines, the final decision regarding the suitability of all artwork for the Ohio House of Representatives Student Art Exhibition will be made by lead staffers of the Ohio House of Representatives, the Ohio Arts Council, and Ohio Art Education Association. It is not the intent to censor any artwork, although we do wish to avoid artwork that is potentially inappropriate for display in this highly traveled area of the Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts.

Student Information, Identification of Work, and Permission to Exhibit

Each work of art must have a completed entry form. Make sure you double check that you have the correct district on your form and the extended four digit zip code. Also make sure you check permission for the image to be used by the organizations.
Your digital photo of your work should be high quality (800 pixels or larger), vertical (easy to enlarge to fit into standard 18X 24 frame), and labeled with your first and last name and district (jane_smith_41.jpg)
Due to the exhibition space no 3-D work will be accepted.
Each piece of artwork must be completed during the student's high school career.
All work is subject to these guidelines and may be rejected if the guidelines are not met.

If you have questions please contact the chairperson at [email protected].
